Random Friend Requests

Has anyone been getting random Facebook friend request recently? I know I have.

I mean, I don't mind meeting new friends, but I typically prefer to meet them face-to-face before I friend them on Facebook.

It's funny, there's definitely a "Facebook etiquette" that's developed in the last few years. And in my mind, sending someone a random friend request is certainly in violation.

Despite this, I typically don't ignore them. Ultimately, there are three ways to respond to these kind of requests.

1. Ignore it because you don't know them (which is totally legitimate, by the way).
2. Just accept it because the person is probably just looking for some friends. (Plus, it gives you a higher friend count overall).
3. (My preferred option) Message the person first asking if there was some way you know them and forgot – which actually happens to me at times, haha. And then upon receiving the awkward message back that says, "Oh, I just saw that you go to AU and I'm going there in the fall," friend them out of ½ pity and ½ general kindness.

Overall, I strongly recommend meeting someone in person (or at least by phone?) before you decide to friend them.
